The Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) is working with the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) on plans to construct a four-line railway to transport cargo from Dar es Salaam Port to a logistics hub outside the city. According to TPA Director General Plasduce, the project aims to ease congestion at the port and improve cargo movement to other regions of Tanzania and neighbouring countries.

Tanzania has signed nine public-private partnership (PPP) contracts as of June 2026, aimed at accelerating strategic projects, enhancing public services, and attracting investment. These contracts include initiatives related to the Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit (DART) system, mandatory motor vehicle inspections, the Kariakoo commercial building, the TAZARA railway, and the operation of the Dar es Salaam Port in collaboration with DP World and Adani.

Official port statistics indicate that cargo traffic to and from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) via the Port of Dar es Salaam and Tanga surged from 4,180,902 tonnes in 2024 to 7,239,741 tonnes in 2025, marking a 73.2 percent increase. This development positions the DRC as the largest transit cargo market for Tanzania's ports.

The Tanzania Railways Corporation plans to deploy additional trains and wagons to Isaka Dry Port in response to rising cargo volumes from regional traders that have increased demand for rail services. According to TRC Director General Engineer Machibya Shiwa, the state-owned corporation is considering the expansion following requests from users of the facility. The move is intended to strengthen freight transport capacity at the inland port, which serves as a key logistics hub for Tanzania and neighbouring landlocked countries.

Tanzania's government says it is strengthening the use of digital technologies, modern port and trade management systems, and scientific data to guide decision-making as part of efforts to advance the country's blue economy. The remarks were made in Dar es Salaam by Hamadi Masauni, Minister of State in the Vice President's Office for Union Affairs and Environment, according to the Daily News.

Japan is set to replace the hazardous Likoni ferries with a modern four-lane cable-stayed bridge over Kilindini Creek in Mombasa. The bridge will span 1.4 kilometers and will be accompanied by approximately 13 kilometers of connecting roads and modern infrastructural interchanges.
