The prices of liquefied petroleum gas, or cooking gas, have decreased in various regions of Nigeria following a period of increase attributed to supply constraints. Retail outlets in Abuja reported a drop in prices, with costs falling between N1450 and N1500 per kilogram, down from N1700 at AA Shafa and Ranoil in Dutse.

Stakeholders in Nigeria's liquefied petroleum gas sector have stepped up coordinated efforts with the federal government to boost domestic supply and lower the cost of cooking gas, according to Leadership newspaper. The push comes as gas prices have fallen by 40 percent from their June peak in markets across the country. The report cites comments from the executive secretary and chief executive officer of a Nigerian liquefied and compressed gas industry body, who applauded the joint efforts.

Nigeria's Liquefied Petroleum Gas market recorded its strongest recovery in months in July 2026, with total daily supply rising to 5.332 kilotonnes per day, up from 5.164 kilotonnes per day, according to ThisDay Live. The increased supply coincided with a drop in cooking gas prices of about 30 percent. The report, written by Peter Uzoho, suggests easing pressure on households and businesses reliant on LPG for cooking and energy needs across the country.

Depot prices for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, have decreased across various terminals in Lagos, with Rain Oil leading the reduction by cutting prices by N18 per litre. Additionally, diesel prices have also seen a significant drop, falling by up to N70 per litre. This adjustment in prices comes as petroleum marketers respond to changing supply dynamics in Nigeria's downstream oil market, according to Vanguard Business.

Filling stations in Nigeria, including MRS, AA Rano, and NIPCO, have decreased petrol prices following a reduction in the ex-depot price by Dangote Refinery to N1,075 per litre. This price cut has provided relief to consumers across the country.

Nigerian motorists could see cheaper petrol once the country's domestic refining industry becomes stronger, more competitive and financially sustainable, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). Petrol currently sells at about N1,310 to N1,350 per litre in many parts of Nigeria, after prices rose from previous levels. The regulator's comments link future fuel affordability to the growth and viability of local refining capacity.
