The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted smuggled goods valued at N274 million in Cross River, which included vegetable oil and used tyres. This action aims to protect local industries from the impact of smuggling.

Importers and clearing agents in Nigeria are expressing concerns over high demurrage costs at seaports, which they attribute to delays caused by the National Single Window (NSW) platform affecting cargo clearance. According to Lucky Amiwero, the National President of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents, importers are incurring daily demurrage fees of N100,000 due to these prolonged processes.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed an attempt to smuggle unregistered pharmaceutical products into Nigeria using a counterfeit registration number from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, announced the seizure of N53 billion worth of drugs and expired pharmaceuticals, which were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and NAFDAC.

The Ogun Customs has reported the seizure of contraband items valued at ₦4.63 billion, which included various goods such as foreign rice, cannabis, petroleum products, footwear, tyres, sugar, second-hand clothing, and pharmaceuticals. This operation has resulted in a revenue increase of 238%, according to Afeni.
