National Sports Commission Director-General Bukola Olopade has expressed confidence that Lagos is fully prepared to host the inaugural National Intermediate Games, known as EKO 2026. According to Olopade, the event will showcase the depth of Nigeria's emerging sporting talent. Speaking at a joint technical session ahead of the competition, he praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government for their preparations for the games, which are set to spotlight the country's up-and-coming athletes.

The maiden edition of the National Intermediate Games, known as Eko 2026, has been postponed from its original dates of October 1 to 15, 2026, to the first quarter of 2027. According to Leadership, the decision followed concerns over the state of preparations for the event, which was scheduled to take place in Lagos. The delay marks a setback for the inaugural Games despite earlier assurances from the Lagos State Government regarding readiness.

Nigeria has established a complete training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland, where 74 athletes are preparing for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The athletes are focusing on 10 different sports as they intensify their preparations for the upcoming event.
