The FAIS Ombud has warned South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant recipients, especially older people, to monitor their bank accounts and grant payments for unauthorised funeral-policy deductions. According to the IOL report, the ombud cautioned that such deductions, often made without recipients' knowledge or consent, could reduce the value of their social grants. Beneficiaries were advised to check their statements regularly and report any suspicious or unauthorised debit orders to the relevant authorities.
