Tanzania's Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) is marking 40 years since its establishment, with a shift in focus from the volume of research produced to the economic value that knowledge can generate. According to the Daily News, more than 100bn Tanzanian shillings have been directed into research and innovation as the institution seeks to turn scientific work into business opportunities, the paper reported from Dar es Salaam.

Innovation Week Tanzania 2026 was held over five days at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, bringing together government officials, researchers, and entrepreneurs. According to Daily News, the event focused on positioning innovation as central to Tanzania's long-term development vision toward 2050, rather than treating it as a passing slogan. Conference halls, exhibition spaces, and discussion rooms hosted participants exchanging ideas on how innovation can shape the country's economic and social future.

Kenya and China have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in information and communication technology (ICT), digital transformation, and innovation during a recent meeting. This partnership aims to strengthen ties and promote advancements in these sectors between the two nations.

During President Tharman Shanmugaratnam's state visit to Tanzania, the two countries signed five agreements covering taxation, trade facilitation, public service capacity building, and diplomatic cooperation. They also emphasized plans to enhance collaboration in investment, digital transformation, logistics, financial services, and industrial development, with bilateral trade reaching USD 74 million and Singaporean investments in Tanzania exceeding USD 535 million.

Tanzania and Malawi have agreed to boost trade and investment between the two countries by strengthening private sector cooperation, adding value to raw materials, and taking advantage of regional market opportunities, according to Habari Leo. Malawi will continue using Tanzania as a key trade gateway through the Port of Dar es Salaam. The agreements were discussed at a meeting held in Dar es Salaam, reflecting efforts by both nations to deepen economic ties and expand cross-border commerce within the region.

Tanzania and Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing tourism cooperation, which is seen as a significant move to bolster economic relations between the two nations. The agreement was formalized between Tanzania’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development, coinciding with the launch of Air Tanzania Company Limited’s new initiatives.
