Health educators and HIV/AIDS focal persons in the Karamoja sub-region are receiving training on the implementation of Lenacapavir, a new injectable drug for HIV prevention introduced by the Ministry of Health. This training, organized by the Uganda AIDS Commission in Moroto District, aims to equip health communication officers and focal persons with the necessary skills for the rollout of this six-month HIV prevention jab.

The Ministry of Health in Uganda has announced the arrival of an additional 19,200 doses of lenacapavir, a long-acting injectable drug for HIV prevention, due to increasing demand. This shipment is expected next month and will primarily be used for administering second injections to individuals already receiving the treatment.

Health workers in Uganda are advocating for expanded age-appropriate sexuality education for girls to help reduce the incidence of unsafe abortions. The Ministry of Health reported that the demand for Lenacapavir, an HIV prevention injection introduced in Uganda in April, is surpassing the available supplies. Dr. Herbert Kadama, the ministry’s coordinator for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, noted that an increasing number of men are seeking the drug. This announcement was made during a meeting with HIV advocates, researchers, and policymakers.
