Wajir County in Kenya has intensified preparations ahead of enhanced rainfall expected during the October-November-December season, with authorities warning of possible flooding, disease outbreaks and disruption to transport and food supplies. According to the Kenya News Agency, National Drought Management Authority County Drought Coordinator Omar Abdi announced the measures after a county steering group meeting, saying stakeholders had coordinated response plans to mitigate the anticipated effects of the heavy rains.

Widespread flooding has occurred across several states in Nigeria due to persistent rainfall, highlighting the country's vulnerability to seasonal disasters. As the peak rainy season approaches, fears of further flooding are mounting, particularly in regions from the South-West to the South-South, according to reports from various journalists.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a flash-flood risk alert for the period from July 1 to 10, 2026, indicating that intensified rainfall is expected. The alert specifically mentions that Lagos, Sokoto, Imo, and 24 other states are at high risk of flooding during this time.

Umar Mohammed, the Director General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), stated that the recent severe floods in Lagos State and other areas were anticipated. He warned that more heavy rains and floodwaters are expected to continue for up to 12 weeks.

The SA Weather Service has issued a weather alert indicating that residents can expect a wet Thursday on 25 June 2026. The forecast details will provide specific information relevant to various regions.

The Lagos state government has accused bloggers of disseminating fake images related to flooding in the area. According to the commissioner, the government is actively monitoring developments in Lagos and is responsive to reports and complaints received through various media platforms.
