Sudan has been experiencing ongoing conflict since 2023, following the outbreak of fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. According to Eastleigh Voice, the people in El Obeid are facing continuous drone strikes as a result of this war.

The Sudanese army has intensified its offensive to retake the strategic city of Kurmuk, located on the border with Ethiopia. This military action follows months of operations in Sudan's Blue Nile region, which escalated after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allied militia, the SPLM-N, captured Kurmuk in March 2026. There are growing concerns about the potential spillover of the conflict into neighboring Ethiopia.

The United Nations reports that sexual violence is increasingly being used as a 'weapon of war' in Sudan, with the scale and brutality of these attacks being unprecedented. The attacks are reportedly aimed at terrorizing communities, highlighting a severe humanitarian crisis in the region.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced the capture of a rebel stronghold near the Ethiopia border, specifically in the Geissan district. This operation was conducted by the SAF’s 13th Infantry Brigade under the Fourth Infantry Division, targeting areas beyond Abu Dugla and Ashambo, located approximately one kilometre from the border with Ethiopia.

In Sudan, the decision of some Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters to switch allegiance and join the national army has sparked anger and instability among citizens. Many are upset, arguing that RSF commanders who have made this move will evade legal accountability for their past actions, which include violence against civilians and even killings. Last month, RSF commander Ali Rizkallah was welcomed in Khartoum and promoted within the Sudanese army despite his controversial history.

Brigadier General Jackson Kayanja, the Sector One Commander, has urged officers and troops of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) serving in Somalia under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM) to maintain conscious discipline. He emphasized that this discipline is essential for professionalism, mission success, and career development during his address to the personnel.
