The defence in the treason trial of CHADEMA official Tundu Lissu introduced election-observer claims and accounts of arrests, according to The Chanzo. A deputy CHADEMA secretary general told the court that the excerpts underpinning the charges were taken out of context from a three-hour speech about reforms. The testimony forms part of the defence's effort to challenge the prosecution's framing of Lissu's remarks.

Court proceedings in the treason trial of Tundu Lissu resumed in early February at the High Court in Dar es Salaam, following a hiatus of several months. Lissu faces charges of treason, which are currently being addressed in the court.

A CHADEMA party leader testifying for the defence in the trial of Tundu Lissu conceded in a Dar es Salaam court on Friday that the party chairperson intended his April 3, 2025 speech to reach the Tanzanian public and that its purpose was to press the government to undertake legal reforms to the electoral system. According to The Chanzo, the admission came as prosecutors continued challenging the defence's account of the speech, which is central to the case against Lissu.

The Kano State High Court has adjourned the trial of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and seven others, who are facing charges of misappropriation of public funds, until October 14, 2025. The charges include bribery, conspiracy, and diversion of public funds, with Ganduje and his wife, Hafsat Umar, among those accused.

A court has decided to expedite the trial of a journalist from Taraba who has been in detention for six months. During the hearing, prosecuting counsel Barr. D.G. Tukura requested that specific bank documents and account statements from three banks be presented to the court along with PIN witnesses.

The court has extended the detention of suspects involved in the arson case at Utumishi Academy for an additional two days, following an application by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). This extension is pending plea-taking scheduled for June 26.
