Two South African Police Service (SAPS) officers and an informer have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in a robbery and kidnapping that occurred during an unlawful operation in Randburg on May 8, 2018. The incident involved the theft of R1.2 million from three foreign nationals.

Julius Mkhwanazi has denied allegations of receiving cash following the theft of R14 million in gemstones. A witness has claimed that a suspended officer instructed colleagues to confirm the presence of the gems on-site before stealing them, raising questions about the incident.

Mkhwanazi has addressed allegations concerning his involvement in systemic criminality and corruption within the EMPD, including issues related to fake police clearances, fraudulent badges, and a R14 million stolen gems heist, during the Madlanga commission hearings.

The commission has stated that Mkhwanazi lied under oath regarding a R14.9 million gemstones heist. It has also warned witnesses that providing false testimony could result in perjury charges, which are criminal offenses.

Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly fitting illegal blue lights to a private vehicle. They are set to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday, 6 July, according to The Citizen.
