The Government of Uganda has evacuated 424 Ugandan nationals from South Africa due to recent anti-migrant protests and xenophobic violence, which resulted in the deaths of at least three Ugandans and the displacement of hundreds. The first group of 273 returnees, including 255 adults and 18 children, arrived at Entebbe International Airport on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

The first group of 273 Ugandans evacuated from South Africa under the government’s voluntary repatriation programme has returned home. This group, which included 18 infants and 255 adults, arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Friday morning aboard the first evacuation flight. They were accompanied by Uganda’s High Commissioner, according to Matooke Republic.

Nigeria reported that two of its nationals were killed in South Africa during anti-immigrant protests last month. The fatalities occurred on June 28, shortly before an unofficial deadline set by protesters for foreigners to leave the country, according to the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The second batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa has arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. A total of 66 returnees landed at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday as part of the federal government's evacuation program, which was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in response to recent xenophobic attacks, according to African Examiner.

According to Capital FM Business, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi announced that 151 Kenyans have been repatriated from South Africa due to rising anti-migrant tensions. Additionally, a total of 240 Kenyan nationals have registered for assistance with the Kenya High Commission in Pretoria.

The Ugandan government has reported that three Ugandans died during recent anti-immigrant unrest in South Africa. Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo stated that efforts are underway to work with South African authorities to repatriate the bodies and provide support to the families of the deceased.
