The Nigerian federal government is moving to terminate the Benin-Asaba road concession agreement over alleged contract breaches, according to Channels TV. The Federal Controller of Works in Edo State, Babatunde Tajudeen, said the Federal Ministry of Works was exploring measures to restore the highway and ease the hardship faced by motorists who use the route.

The Niger Delta Development Commission has flagged off reconstruction work on a 15.4-kilometre failed stretch of the Benin-Sapele section of the East-West Road at Amukpe. According to The Tide, the project follows a Federal Government directive for urgent intervention over the road's deplorable condition. NDDC Managing Director Samuel Ogbuku officially led the flag-off ceremony. The East-West Road is a major highway serving Nigeria's Niger Delta region, and its poor state has long drawn complaints from commuters and communities.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to order an investigation into the alleged diversion of over ₦78.8 billion in public funds. According to SERAP, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the National Cash Transfer Office, and the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office should urgently account for funds reportedly diverted, unaccounted for, or irregularly spent under Nigeria's cash transfer programme.
