The Social Health Authority (SHA) has suspended MP Shah Hospital from the government's health insurance scheme for 90 days following numerous complaints from patients who reported being charged for services that should be fully covered by the health insurance fund. In a letter dated June 23, 2026, SHA's CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi noted the authority received many complaints regarding the quality of healthcare services provided at the hospital.

MP Shah Hospital has issued a response following the suspension of services by the SHA, committing to investigate the billing issues that led to the suspension. The hospital also promised to assist patients with safe transfers and stated that it will cooperate fully with the relevant authorities during the investigation.

M.P. Shah Hospital has initiated an internal review to determine if patients were improperly charged for services that should have been covered under the State Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). The hospital stated it will cooperate with the relevant authorities in the billing investigation.
