The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus met at the Office of the President in Kampala to elect a new Executive Committee and select candidates for Uganda's two vacant seats in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). The meeting began at 11:00 AM and included various NRM Members.

This decision was made by the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC), which is led by President Yoweri Museveni.

A recent surge in opposition arrests, military detentions, and treason charges in Uganda indicates a worsening political crisis. Notably, Erias Lukwago, the former Lord Mayor of Kampala and legal representative for Dr. Kizza Besigye, has been implicated in these developments, which include allegations of abduction and torture of political opponents, according to The Independent.
