Mudavadi, who had previously avoided political activity, met UDA ticket aspirants over the weekend, with Cotu-K Secretary General Francis Atwoli among those involved in organising the meeting.

President William Ruto is facing pressure to ensure his directive targeting foreign nationals engaged in small-scale trade in Kenya does not fuel discrimination, hatred, or retaliation against Kenyans living and working abroad. According to Taifa Leo, concern is growing among Kenyans in the diaspora, some of whom are employed by foreign nationals including Burundians, who fear being targeted if tensions escalate. The concerns follow reports of Burundian nationals in Kenya being threatened and discriminated against after Ruto's order on traders.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has signalled a possible political alliance between the Mount Kenya region and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, saying the region is ready to back him if chosen as the joint opposition candidate in the 2027 election. According to Taifa Leo, Gachagua said he is willing to be Sifuna's running mate or have the senator as his deputy, if it helps remove President William Ruto from power.
