Despite a reduction in load shedding and fewer power cuts in South Africa, electricity bills are increasing. This rise in costs is attributed to significant tariff increases approved by the National Energy Regulator, leading to confusion among consumers about why prices are climbing when the power supply is more stable.

According to Moneyweb, recent electricity price hikes are significantly impacting families, pushing them further into financial difficulties. The focus has shifted from issues of load shedding to the increasing costs of electricity, which are becoming unaffordable for many households.

Uganda's annual headline inflation rose to 4.1 percent in August 2026, driven by higher food prices and underlying price pressures that pushed the cost of living slightly higher, according to Business Times. The increase comes despite easing pressure in other areas, adding strain to household budgets as food costs continue to climb for consumers across the country.

Diesel prices in South Africa have risen by more than 11%, raising concerns about renewed inflationary pressure. According to The Citizen Business, the increase could benefit Sasol and some coal producers, but freight operators are expected to bear much of the cost, with consumers ultimately affected as transport expenses feed through to prices.
