The Muungano Party, led by former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, has formally applied to rename itself The Mwananchi Party (TMP), according to a Gazette Notice published by the Registrar of Political Parties under Section 20(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act. The application introduces a third claimant to the contested "Mwananchi" political identity and could complicate ongoing legal efforts by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's Linda Mwananchi movement ahead of Kenya's 2027 General Election.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has joined the Linda Mwananchi coalition, strengthening the opposition's efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. Maraga expressed his readiness to collaborate with leaders including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi to ensure the removal of President William Ruto from power in the upcoming elections. His remarks were made during political meetings in Kisii, Keumbu, and Keroka.

Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata confirmed his affiliation with the Linda Mwananchi movement, stating that he joined to create a platform uniting Kenyans from diverse political backgrounds around a shared national agenda. In an interview on Citizen TV’s JKLive, he emphasized that his decision was driven by the desires of ordinary Kenyans rather than personal ambition, describing the movement as an inclusive space in Kenyan politics.
