Nigeria recorded a trade surplus of N12.59 trillion in the second quarter of 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The NBS said total foreign trade with other countries reached N41.44 trillion during the period, with the surplus representing a 101.32% increase compared with the same quarter a year earlier. Nigeria plans to draw lessons from China on transforming its tourism sector, according to Dr Ola Awakan, Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority. The minister also stated that processing of certificates under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) now takes 24 hours, highlighting efforts to boost intra-African trade.

In 2025, Nigeria experienced a 21% increase in intra-African trade, reaching a total of $9.02 billion. This growth is attributed to the ongoing implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which has facilitated new export opportunities and enhanced regional commercial integration by allowing businesses to benefit from preferential market access and reduced trade barriers, according to the latest African Trade Report.
