Tanzania's Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) has strengthened its partnership with the police to curb the importation, distribution, and use of substandard medicines, medical devices, cosmetics, and tobacco products. TMDA Director Adam Fimbo said the cooperation is essential to ensure Tanzanians access products of acceptable quality, safety, and effectiveness. He spoke during a working session between TMDA and the police force in Dar es Salaam, noting the authority is taking various measures against non-compliant products.

Tanzanian Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has called on Africa to build its own capacity to finance, manage and produce essential health services rather than relying long-term on foreign aid and external systems. Speaking on September 9, 2026, on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, he opened the Second International Primary Healthcare Conference in Arusha, which brought together more than 2,700 participants from 27 countries.

According to the report, the talks focused on promoting technical cooperation and investment, as Tanzania's government prioritizes boosting local drug production to meet domestic and regional market demand.

Yas Tanzania, through its Kampeni ya Tumaini initiative, donated medical equipment and delivery supplies to Mbarali District Hospital to support expectant mothers. According to Yas southern highlands head Frank Protas Antony, the donation aims to improve access to essential equipment and help the hospital provide safer, better maternal and child health services as part of the company's community support efforts.
