The Nigerian Navy has discovered a hidden illegal fuel storage site in Rivers State, recovering around 11,800 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly referred to as diesel. This operation is part of the Navy's ongoing efforts under Operation Delta Sentinel, aimed at combating illegal fuel activities in the region.

In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives arrested a 67-year-old grandmother who was allegedly transporting cocaine concealed within fake plantains. This incident follows the arrest of 30-year-old Daniel Harrison Ugwuoke, who was apprehended along the Zaki-Biam Road in the Wukari Local Government Area with 43,980 capsules of tramadol hidden in vehicle fuel tanks, according to Channels TV.

The Nigerian Navy said it disrupted two illegal refining sites in Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State and recovered about 33,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil. The operation was conducted on September 6, 2026 by Nigerian Navy Ship PATHFINDER, according to a statement. The blurb did not mention arrests, casualties, or the sites’ operators.

A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced 25-year-old Jerry Njoku to seven years in prison with hard labour for defiling a ten-year-old girl. The trial judge, Justice Rita Oguguo, stated that the prosecution successfully proved the case of defilement against Njoku, leading to the sentencing.

The operation was conducted in August, with authorities acting to halt the unauthorised exercise and take the suspects into custody for further investigation.
