The Tanzanian government has implemented a five percent levy on timber royalties to finance tree-planting initiatives and enhance forest conservation efforts nationwide. Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hamad Hassan Chande, announced this measure in the National Assembly, stating that the funds will be collected through the Tanzania Forest Fund (TaFF) to support restoration projects.

Said Mtanda, the Mwanza Regional Commissioner, praised Kwimba District Council for surpassing its revenue collection targets for four consecutive years. During a Special Meeting of the Council of Councillors on June 24, 2026, he encouraged the council to utilize the collected revenue for the development of significant strategic projects.

Tabora District Commissioner Upendo Wella has directed the Tabora Municipal Council to accelerate local revenue collection in order to speed up implementation of development projects across all wards. Justice Oguttu Mboya has issued a court order preventing the County Government of Meru, the Kenya Forest Service, and other involved parties from continuing with the development of a golf course and airstrip in Meru Forest until the case is fully adjudicated.
