Nigeria plans to draw lessons from China on transforming its tourism sector, according to Dr Ola Awakan, Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority. Speaking at a seminar on China's tourism development experience organised by the Chinese embassy in Abuja on Tuesday, Awakan highlighted China's remarkable transformation of its tourism industry as a model Nigeria aims to study and adapt for its own sector expansion.

According to Tribune Online, the Federal Government and industry stakeholders have identified skills development, investment, digital innovation, destination management and stronger institutions as critical to unlocking the sector's potential. The Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) is involved in the initiative.
