A recent earthquake in Venezuela has resulted in a death toll of 2,954, according to official figures. The disaster has left over 16,000 people homeless and caused the collapse of 190 buildings, primarily in the coastal La Guaira area, which is located north of the capital, Caracas.

Back-to-back earthquakes in Venezuela have resulted in at least 32 fatalities and around 700 injuries, according to acting President Delcy Rodríguez. The US Geological Survey has estimated a 44% chance of more than 10,000 deaths and a 30% chance of over 100,000. Rescue operations are ongoing in Caracas as teams search through the debris for survivors.

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening, causing buildings to collapse in the capital, Caracas. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the epicenter was west of Moron, approximately 168 kilometers from Caracas, at a depth of 13 kilometers. Residents evacuated as buildings swayed, with many visibly shocked by the destruction, including collapsed walls that exposed furniture to the street.
