The Ugandan Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has suspended gold mining activities in Kayungwe sub-county, Kanungu district, due to unlicensed operations, environmental degradation, and public health concerns. This decision follows an influx of residents to Kanoni village over the past two months, drawn by reports of gold deposits in the area.

Kanungu District Council conducted a special sitting to honor the late Hon. Dr. Stanley Kinyata, who was the first Member of Parliament for Kinkiizi East Constituency from 1996 to 2001. Following his tenure, he was succeeded by Hon. Dr. Hamlet Kabushenga. The tribute reflects the community's recognition of Dr. Kinyata's contributions to the district.
