Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i has clarified his sudden meeting with ODM Deputy Leader Simba Arati and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, following the circulation of their photos online which sparked intense political debate. The images showed the leaders conversing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), leading some to speculate about political discussions between Matiang'i and leaders supporting a coalition government.

Matiang'i, a co-principal in the opposition alliance led by Kalonzo Musyoka, has dismissed claims of discussions with allies of President Ruto following the circulation of airport photos. He clarified that the individuals in the photos merely encountered each other after checking in for separate Kenya Airways flights to Kisumu.
