Moi University is set to implement staff layoffs as part of a cost-cutting strategy aimed at reducing its monthly wage bill by Ksh 100 million. The decision comes after years of financial difficulties, with university management stating that the restructuring is essential for maintaining financial stability.

Moi University plans to reduce its workforce in an effort to save approximately Sh100 million monthly, as stated by Acting Vice-Chancellor Kiplagat Kotut during a presentation to a National Assembly committee.

Moi University is requesting a bailout of Sh11 billion to address staff dues and complete ongoing projects. Acting Vice-Chancellor Kiplagat Kotut presented this need before a National Assembly committee, specifying that Sh6.67 billion is required for recurrent expenditure and Sh5.3 billion for development projects.
