William Troost-Ekong, the former captain of the Super Eagles, disclosed that he attempted to persuade Canadian striker Promise David to represent Nigeria instead of Canada. Despite considering a switch to Nigeria, David ultimately chose to play for Canada, following his participation with Nigeria's Olympic national team in 2023.
