The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that the next election in Kenya will take place on August 10, 2027. The commission plans to petition Parliament for legislation that establishes minimum academic qualifications for candidates seeking elective office, citing concerns over court rulings that have weakened enforcement of educational requirements. IEBC National Steering Committee chairperson Evans Masiti emphasized the need for defined academic thresholds for political leaders.
