Rebels in Mali have demonstrated their capability to challenge the central government, highlighting the junta's struggles to maintain control over the expansive Sahel nation. This situation underscores the ongoing difficulties faced by the ruling military government in managing security and governance in the region, according to Channels TV.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced the capture of a rebel stronghold near the Ethiopia border, specifically in the Geissan district. This operation was conducted by the SAF’s 13th Infantry Brigade under the Fourth Infantry Division, targeting areas beyond Abu Dugla and Ashambo, located approximately one kilometre from the border with Ethiopia.
