A federal judge appointed by Barack Obama has permanently blocked key components of President Donald Trump's executive order regarding voter registration. This ruling prevents the Trump administration from enforcing a requirement for documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration and other related changes. The decision was made by U.S. District Court Judge Denise Casper on June 24, 2026.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced that approximately 28.5 million South Africans are registered to vote in the upcoming local government elections, following the recent voter registration weekend.
