The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has destroyed illicit goods valued at Sh218 million as part of a crackdown aimed at ensuring fair competition for compliant businesses, according to Chief Manager for Micro and Small Taxpayers Michael Gichuki.

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) conducted an enforcement operation in Kikuubo, Kampala, resulting in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of over 400 cartons of counterfeit and substandard toilet tissue. The operation also uncovered thousands of fake packaging materials that were likely used to rebrand unlabelled toilet tissue products.

The Nigeria Textile Manufacturers Association (NTMA) has called for stronger government measures to protect the local textile industry from excessive imports, smuggling, and unfair foreign competition. Dr. Hamma Ali Kwajaffa, the Director-General of NTMA, emphasized the association's ongoing advocacy for decisive action during a program on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

According to Vanguard Business, stakeholders in Nigeria's automobile and maritime sectors have identified delays and high clearing costs as significant factors driving car importers to use neighboring countries' ports and engage in smuggling. The Nigeria Customs Service reported the seizure of 870 smuggled vehicles valued at N3.88 billion over a 15-month period.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed an attempt to smuggle unregistered pharmaceutical products into Nigeria using a counterfeit registration number from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, announced the seizure of N53 billion worth of drugs and expired pharmaceuticals, which were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and NAFDAC.

The Kenyan government has stopped parallel importation of medicines and health technologies to enhance oversight and protect citizens from substandard and counterfeit medical products. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced that all pharmaceutical imports must now go through approved channels to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and efficacy standards.
