Tanzania and Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing tourism cooperation, which is seen as a significant move to bolster economic relations between the two nations. The agreement was formalized between Tanzania’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development, coinciding with the launch of Air Tanzania Company Limited’s new initiatives.

Air Tanzania has temporarily suspended flights between Dar es Salaam and Moscow, citing a routine risk assessment, days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that increased drone activity was making Russian airspace unsafe for airlines. The state-owned carrier said flights TC422 and TC423 would be suspended from September 4, 2026, following the security evaluation. The decision comes amid broader concerns raised by Ukrainian officials about the safety of civilian aviation over Russia due to ongoing drone activity linked to the war.

Zanzibar has approved a budget of TZS 8.52 trillion (approximately USD 3.28 billion) for the 2026/27 fiscal year, marking a 22.11% increase. The budget aims for a 7.5% GDP growth while reducing reliance on external financing to 2.8%. Key sectors for investment include tourism, agriculture, fisheries, small and medium enterprises, and the blue economy. Measures to attract investors include the upcoming launch of a stock exchange and tax incentives for manufacturers and commercial vehicles.

The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) has appointed Khalid Hamed Al Barwani, an Omani tourism promoter and travel influencer, as Tanzania’s Honorary Tourism Ambassador. This recognition is for his efforts in promoting Tanzania's tourism attractions internationally. The appointment was made by TTB Director General Ephraim Mafuru.

More than 50 investors and business leaders from Africa, Europe, and North America have gathered in Dar es Salaam for a five-day trade and investment mission led by Equity Group. This initiative highlights the bank's increasing role in facilitating cross-border investment opportunities in East Africa, with participants from countries including Kenya, Canada, Nigeria, and Poland.

Economic experts have characterized Mozambican President Daniel Chapo’s visit to Tanzania as a significant chance to enhance trade, draw investment, and promote regional economic integration. During his speech at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, President Chapo emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two neighboring countries.
