Clean up operations are currently taking place in Cape Town following the official closure of the repatriation site in Epping. As these operations proceed, migrants are reportedly heading towards Musina, indicating a shift in their movement within the region.

According to SABC News, more than 8,000 Malawian nationals in KwaZulu-Natal have been processed by Home Affairs as they request repatriation. This increase in requests reflects a growing trend among foreign nationals in the region seeking to return to their home countries.

The eThekwini municipality has urged individuals to refrain from dropping off foreign employees at a closed repatriation site in Durban. Approximately 700 men, women, and children have gathered outside the former drive-in repatriation centre, seeking government assistance to return to their home countries.

As police intensify their efforts, more foreigners, including Zimbabwean nationals, are seeking to leave the country. The situation has prompted a significant number of individuals to arrange for repatriation amid the ongoing crackdown.

The first group of 273 Ugandans evacuated from South Africa under the government’s voluntary repatriation programme has returned home. This group, which included 18 infants and 255 adults, arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Friday morning aboard the first evacuation flight. They were accompanied by Uganda’s High Commissioner, according to Matooke Republic.

Some Malawian nationals residing in Durban have expressed happiness about returning to their home country. Their departure coincides with increasing anti-immigration protests in various regions of South Africa, which have raised concerns among foreign nationals.
