The Director-General of Nigeria's National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, has announced that the agency seized 7,210 fake, substandard and non-compliant regulated products during nationwide surveillance operations carried out between May and July 2026. Adeyeye disclosed the figures at a media briefing in Lagos, according to Tribune Online, which reported the briefing addressed public concern over the circulation of unsafe products.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed an attempt to smuggle unregistered pharmaceutical products into Nigeria using a counterfeit registration number from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, announced the seizure of N53 billion worth of drugs and expired pharmaceuticals, which were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and NAFDAC.

According to PM News, an official said the operation covered 6,233 facilities spanning food and water, drugs and herbals, and cosmetics and chemicals regulatory areas, reflecting NAFDAC’s continued enforcement activity across the country.

The Nigerian Navy said it disrupted two illegal refining sites in Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State and recovered about 33,000 litres of products suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil. The operation was conducted on September 6, 2026 by Nigerian Navy Ship PATHFINDER, according to a statement. The blurb did not mention arrests, casualties, or the sites’ operators.

The Ogun Customs has reported the seizure of contraband items valued at ₦4.63 billion, which included various goods such as foreign rice, cannabis, petroleum products, footwear, tyres, sugar, second-hand clothing, and pharmaceuticals. This operation has resulted in a revenue increase of 238%, according to Afeni.

The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service reported a notable increase in revenue and substantial seizures of smuggled goods totaling ₦4.63 billion over a three-month period, along with the arrest of multiple suspects. This development highlights ongoing efforts to combat smuggling in the region.
