In Kayunga District, primary school pupils face severe learning conditions, often cramming four or five students onto desks meant for two, while others sit on bare mats. Rain disrupts lessons, forcing children into overcrowded rooms. At Nongo Church of Uganda Primary School, headteacher Juliet Nantume highlights the ongoing struggle, noting that the school has not received any support from the district education office despite requests made last year. The desks in use were purchased between 2004 and 2009.

Following the death of Moses Kaliisa Kalangwa, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kayunga, Uganda, is facing a significant succession battle. Family ties, personal ambitions, and factional loyalties are causing divisions within the party. A recent meeting highlighted these tensions as members disagreed on the timing and method for electing a new district chairperson, a position that became vacant after Kalangwa's fatal road accident on May 17, 2026.

During the celebration of International Women’s Day 2026 in Uganda, Kayunga District emphasized the urgent issue of lacking a functional ambulance at Bbaale Health Centre IV, which endangers the lives of expectant mothers. The event, themed "Scaling up Investment to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls," highlighted maternal health concerns while health workers pointed out the critical infrastructure gap affecting emergency services.

In Kayunga District, teenage pregnancies have become a significant concern, with nearly one in five deliveries at Bbaale Health Centre IV involving girls under 18. Health officials reported that in the past six months, 107 out of 570 mothers who delivered at the facility were below this age. The issue has been exacerbated by allegations of relatives coercing young girls into sexual relationships, which was highlighted during an International Women’s Day event at the health centre.
