Education stakeholders in West Nile, Uganda, have called on the government to reinstate training programs for new teachers while also upgrading current educators. They warn that the discontinuation of Primary Teachers’ Colleges (PTCs) and National Teachers’ Colleges (NTCs) has led to an increasing shortage of teachers in the region, according to a statement from Prof. Epiphany Odubuker Picho, the former Chairperson of the relevant educational body.

Leaders in West Nile have raised alarms about a growing mental health crisis, noting that nearly one in four citizens are affected. This surge has been linked to increased drug abuse among youth, high unemployment rates, and escalating family pressures. The concerns were voiced during the launch of a related initiative.
