Mary Yetunde Barek, a 67-year-old Nigerian-British grandmother, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly attempting to smuggle 13 kilograms of cocaine hidden in fake plantain peels at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The NDLEA announced the arrest in a statement released on Sunday.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed an attempt to smuggle unregistered pharmaceutical products into Nigeria using a counterfeit registration number from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, announced the seizure of N53 billion worth of drugs and expired pharmaceuticals, which were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and NAFDAC.
