The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed an attempt to smuggle unregistered pharmaceutical products into Nigeria using a counterfeit registration number from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, announced the seizure of N53 billion worth of drugs and expired pharmaceuticals, which were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and NAFDAC.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted a six-month extension to the tenure of Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of Customs, allowing him to remain in office until February 2027. Adeniyi is originally from Modakeke, Osun State.

The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted smuggled goods valued at N274 million in Cross River, which included vegetable oil and used tyres. This action aims to protect local industries from the impact of smuggling.
The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service reported a notable increase in revenue and substantial seizures of smuggled goods totaling ₦4.63 billion over a three-month period, along with the arrest of multiple suspects. This development highlights ongoing efforts to combat smuggling in the region.

According to Vanguard Business, stakeholders in Nigeria's automobile and maritime sectors have identified delays and high clearing costs as significant factors driving car importers to use neighboring countries' ports and engage in smuggling. The Nigeria Customs Service reported the seizure of 870 smuggled vehicles valued at N3.88 billion over a 15-month period.
