According to a report by the Budget Controller, Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o, nine counties in Kenya have spent less than 20% of their development budgets in the first nine months of the 2025/2026 financial year, focusing instead on salaries and other expenditures. Kajiado County recorded the lowest at 9% of its development budget, followed by Lamu at 11%. Other counties with low development spending include Siaya, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Tana River, Nakuru, Migori, and Mombasa.

Salaries in South Africa have reached a two-year low, with net pay decreasing to R21,000. This decline in real earnings is attributed to salary growth not keeping pace with rising inflation, according to The Citizen Business.

The Taraba State Government has reduced the salaries of street sweepers, part of the Operation Keep Taraba Clean programme, from N15,000 to N10,000. This decision was made to accommodate newly employed civil servants in the state workforce, as confirmed by Hon. Illiya Kefas, the Chairman of the Taraba State Environmental and Sanitation Agency.
