Dr Kimani Muturi, a former teacher from Baringo, has established a successful textile business in Uganda that utilizes discarded banana stems to create products such as bags, carpets, and hair extensions.

The Nigeria Textile Manufacturers Association (NTMA) has called for stronger government measures to protect the local textile industry from excessive imports, smuggling, and unfair foreign competition. Dr. Hamma Ali Kwajaffa, the Director-General of NTMA, emphasized the association's ongoing advocacy for decisive action during a program on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
