Leaders, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, have encouraged boda boda riders to join Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) and invest in income-generating projects to enhance their livelihoods and achieve financial stability. This message was delivered during a boda boda empowerment forum at Mungatsi Primary School in Nambale Sub-county, where Wetang’ula highlighted the benefits of the newly launched Shirikiana Digital SACCO.

Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka has committed to advocating for the welfare of boda boda operators by supporting initiatives to enhance their livelihoods. This pledge was made during a consultative meeting with riders from various markets including Manyulia, Bama, Doho Junction, Ombwara Junction, and Emutsasa. Aseka emphasized the importance of the boda boda sector as a significant pillar of the local economy.

The government has issued a warning to boda boda operators against being used by politicians and criminals to engage in violence, intimidation, and disruption of public order. Officials stated that those participating in such activities will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This announcement was made during a consultative meeting with boda boda operators and sector leaders in Vihiga.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has launched the Affordable Boda Boda Programme, which allows riders to acquire motorbikes with initial deposits starting at KSh 10,000. The program is set to begin in September, aiming to support boda boda riders in accessing affordable transportation options.
