The lawyer for detained Palestinian doctor Hussam Abu Safiya has stated that he is in critical condition and has suffered abuse while in captivity, according to a human rights group. Abu Safiya, who was taken by Israeli forces 18 months ago, previously served as the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. Protests have been held calling for his release.

He was detained by unknown security operatives near the former NUP headquarters in Kampala. His release occurred at the Central Police Station in Kampala.
